In general, internet comment sections are where hope goes to die. If you want to go from a good mood to being on your knees praying for a comet to hit the Earth and wipe out humanity, the fastest way to accomplish that is to read the comment sections on any general interest website. Big content providers (AOL, Yahoo, YouTube, AP, etc.), local newspapers (for some reason the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel is the worst I’ve ever seen aside from the NY Post), and non-political niche interest sites (cars, sports, fashion, entertainment, etc.) are all guaranteed to destroy your psyche in five minutes flat if you dare to wade into the comments.

The criminal investigation into Scott Walker’s current and former top-level aides has already uncovered the theft of more than $60,000 intended for the widows and children of Soldiers killed in action, child sex crimes, secret email networks, illegal campaign contributions, and the abuse of taxpayer resources for political gain. Much of the illegal activity took place less than 10 yards from Scott Walker’s desk. What did Scott Walker know and when did he know it?

I can’t go Occupy Milwaukee tomorrow because I have to work.

Ryan Gosling discusses breaking up a New York street fight (x)

i kinda love that he refers to himself as ‘the guy from the notebook.’

there are paintings going on at the coffee shop on my block and i would totally steal one if i thought i could get away with it because goddamn they are gorgeous paintings of my home neighborhood and other places around milwaukee but the one i like best costs 1800 dollars and i never even have that much money at the same time let alone the spare cash to spend on art.

anyway then ryan gosling would come interrupt me in the process of trying to steal a painting that’s like, bigger than my torso, and i wouldn’t get the painting but it’d be cool because i could say i met ‘the guy from the notebook.’

I’d feel better about if I didn’t find a website from a year ago with that logo. savannahred.blogspot.co… so now I dont know if it’s really his.

He designed the logo over a year ago. I encouraged him to put it on threadless when I saw they were having a “your city” design contest.

In fact, if you follow the link at that blog post to the earlier logo design contest, the only Milwaukee entry is that one, and it has the creator’s name on it. Jeremy Pettis, same person who submitted the design for the shirt.

Police in West Allis, Wis., say some attacks by black teenagers on white people outside the gates of the Wisconsin State Fair on Aug. 4 were racially motivated and should be prosecuted as hate crimes.

Teacher Handbooks To Replace Union Contracts

wisconsinforward:

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

With the start of school approaching on Sept. 1, about two-thirds of Wisconsin’s school districts are rushing to finalize employee handbooks to replace now-extinct collective bargaining agreements that for decades outlined duties and salaries for workers.

The passage of the state’s new “Act 10” legislation - in effect for all districts that didn’t extend a contract with teachers before the passage of the law - gives administrators the ability to make sweeping changes to teachers’ pay scales, hours and working conditions without having to negotiate them with unions.

Some sacred cows are disappearing, such as teacher tenure, layoffs based on seniority and the guarantee of 10 years’ worth of post-retirement health insurance. Other big and complex changes on the horizon include new salary structures and pay-for-performance plans.

I’m hung up on why anyone would think now would be a good time to promote pay-for-performance.  Seriously?

Our new motto: “Backward”

Oh Summerfest. I hate you so hard, and yet you are part of my Milwaukee pride. I don’t know what’s up with that.
