At least these remains ended up in cemeteries, in hallowed ground designated for burying the dead. Others ended up, apparently, in landfills, as the Air Force openly admitted at the end of last year. Horrifically, families weren’t notified about this, and the Air Force didn’t seem to think it had any obligation to notify affected families once the news came out. The military claims to treat the remains of people killed in action, people killed in service of the United States, with respect, but apparently sees no problem with tossing the dead into landfills.
